GIGD Global Information Governance Day
GIGD Global Information Governance Day, or GIGD, is an international holiday that occurs on the third Thursday in February. The purpose of Global Information Governance Day is to raise the awareness of information governance. The holiday was created by Garth Landers, Tamir Sigal, and Barclay T. Blair in 2012.
Information governance is the enforcement of desirable behavior in the creation, use, archiving, and deletion of corporate information. Gartner Inc., an information technology research and advisory firm, defines information governance as the specification of decision rights and an accountability framework to encourage desirable behavior in the valuation, creation, storage, use, archival and deletion of information. It includes the processes, roles, standards and metrics that ensure the effective and efficient use of information in enabling an organization to achieve its goals.
February is Information Governance Month, coordinated by the American Health Information Management Association.
The celebration is coordinated and promoted by information governance experts.
History
Records management deals with the retention and disposition of records. A record can either be a physical, tangible object, or digital information such as a database, application data, and e-mail. The lifecycle was historically viewed as the point of creation to the eventual disposal of a record. As content generation exploded in recent decades, and regulations and compliance issues increased, traditional records management failed to keep pace. A more comprehensive platform for managing records and information became necessary to address all phases of the lifecycle, which led to the advent of information governance.
Information governance goes beyond retention and disposition to include privacy, access controls, and other compliance issues. In electronic discovery, or e-discovery, electronically stored information is searched for relevant data by attorneys and placed on legal hold. IG includes consideration of how this content is held and controlled for e-discovery, and also provides a platform for defensible disposition and compliance. Additionally, metadata often accompanies electronically stored data and can be of great value to the enterprise if stored and managed correctly.
With all of these additional considerations that go beyond traditional records management, IG emerged as a platform for organizations to define policies at the enterprise level, across multiple jurisdictions. IG then also provides for the enforcement of these policies into the various repositories of information, data, and records.
Information governance was given national recognition in November, 2011 with a directive from President Obama to overhaul current records management processes within the government to encompass current needs more comprehensively.
Information governance has been a growing trend, even becoming the theme of the annual ARMA International Conference in 2012. While Records Managers are becoming aware of IG, there is still little awareness among many organizations. Global Information Governance Day was established in 2013 to raise this awareness.

Folic Acid Awareness Week January 7-13, 2018
Benefits Of Folic Acid
Vitamine B11 works together with Vitamin B12. So the symptoms often looks like a Vitamin B12 deficiency. The daily need for folate with its relative instability has helped Big Pharma push folic acid into MD's prescription pads and commercial food suppliers' "enriched" denatured grain products, especially breads and cereals. Maybe folic acid is not too bad all the time. It appears helpful in the short term for expectant mothers to prevent birth defects, but asthma seems more frequent among those children. It is certainly very risky over the long term. The liver can convert the isolate folic acid into the complete spectrum of isomers that constitute folate. But as we age, that ability declines. Then no matter how much folic acid you take, your folate blood levels decline. The result is a folate deficiency, which invites all those diseases associated with old age mentioned earlier.
- Fights Off Dementia : Patients with low levels of folic acid in their blood have a three times higher risk of experiencing Alzheimer's or dementia, according to The Daily Mail newspaper of London. If you have low levels of folic acid, increasing your consumption of dark green leafy vegetables, dried beans, orange juice and peas can help reduce your risk. The recommended intake of folic acid is 400 micrograms per day. You can take a supplement if you have trouble getting enough folic acid in your daily diet,. Do not exceed 1,000 micrograms per day, however. This is the upper limit for folic acid.
- Other Cognitive Improvements : A 2007 study from Wageningen University in the Netherlands published in The Lancet journal concluded that taking folic acid improved memory, communication and information processing. The study measured those older than age 50 over a period of three years. One group took 800 micrograms of folic acid supplements while the other group did not take any folic acid. The group taking folic acid improved in all areas of cognitive function while the group that did not, did not improve in cognitive areas
- Reduced Risk of Heart Disease : In addition to mental benefits, eating foods high in folic acid has been linked with a reduced risk of heart disease and stroke in the elderly, according to the Florida Folic Acid Coalition. Taking folic acid has been shown to reduce levels of homocysteine in the blood. Homocysteine has been linked with heart disease; reducing the risk can mean the elderly will experience better cardiovascular health.
- improves arterial elasticity to lower heart attack risk
- Reduced Cancer Risk : A lack of folic acid in the diet has been linked to increased incidence of a number of cancers, including colon, cervix, rectum, lung, brain, pancreas and esophageal cancers, according to the Linus Pauling Institute at Oregon State University. This is because cancers like these are due to mutation and/or damage to DNA. Folic acid helps to synthesize and repair RNA and DNA; taking in more folic acid via fruits and vegetables can have protective effects against cancers.
- Has been found to attenuate the adverse epigenetic effects of bisphenol A, such as hypomethylation of DNA. wikiwel.com

February and French Toast
It's early Saturday morning and it's still dark outside. I know most people are all snuggled in their bed and planning a sleep in on this rainy Saturday morning; but for me I decided to get up and slowly get my day started. It's going to be a perfect day to do some research on the internet as long as the storm doesn't knock out my connection. I made my way to the kitchen and settled on french toast and coffee for my breakfast. A friend of mine surprised me yesterday with fresh eggs and bread so I couldn't wait to treat myself this morning. As I made the coffee, I could hear the rain pounding the tin awning on the front porch. The whole room was quiet except for the coffee pot lightly talking and the rain sounding outside.
As soon as enough coffee had dripped in the pot I went ahead and filled my favorite coffee cup... "Crazy Cat Lady" in honor of February being National Cat Health Month. lol! My creamer for today is vanilla caramel and I put enough in to compensate for the strong-ness of the coffee. Like always... I reached for my cayenne pepper and tapped a bit in. It's just how I like to drink it. If I had had whipped cream I would of put that in too but sadly I was out.
I sit at the kitchen counter sipping my coffee as I went over in my mind what I needed to work on for the day. I knew I would be working on February 10 date, and from memory I knew it was Teddy Bear Day and Flannel Day. Now believe it or not I remember that because I had a Flannel pajama party one time in honor of February 10. It was winter, cold, we wore flannel and I gave each guest a small Teddy Bear and we ate pie! Lots and lots of pie! You see February is Great American Pie Month and it's also Cherry Month. Well you know I had to have cherry pie for dessert. And... being that February is also Celebration of Chocolate Month I had to have a chocolate pie for us as well. Like I said we ate pie and pie and more pie. ha ha ha!
Finally I finished my cup of coffee and was ready to make french toast. I pored some of the vanilla caramel creamer in my eggs as I beat them up because I knew they were delicious that way. I dipped my bread and then fried my toast lightly brown. As you can see from the photo I soaked it with syrup too. Yummy Yummy Yummy.
I happily refilled my coffee, took my plate back to my bed where my trusty laptop was. Snapped the photo- then snuggled in with my dog Lucy, my coffee, my french toast, and typed this very post your reading right now. :)
Live everyday like a holiday everyone! Pam
The Positive Health Benefits of Friendship
In honor of February being National Friendship Month - I thought it was fitting to talk about "The Positive Health Benefits of Friendship".
Studies have found that strong social supports improve a woman's prospects for good health and longevity. Conversely, loneliness and a lack of social supports have been linked to an increased risk of heart disease, viral infections, and cancer, as well as higher mortality rates overall. Two researchers have even termed friendship networks a "behavioral vaccine" that boosts both physical and mental health.

Conversely, loneliness and a lack of social supports have been linked to an increased risk of heart disease, viral infections, and cancer, as well as higher mortality rates overall. Two researchers have even termed friendship networks a "behavioral vaccine" that boosts both physical and mental health.
There is a large body of research linking friendship and health, but the precise reasons for the connection remain unclear. Most of the studies in this area are large prospective studies that follow people over time, and while there may be a correlation between the two variables (friendship and health status), researchers still do not know if there is a cause and effect relationship, such as the notion that good friendships actually improve health. A number of theories have attempted to explain this link. These theories have included that good friends encourage their friends to lead more healthy lifestyles; that good friends encourage their friends to seek help and access services when needed; that good friends enhance their friends' coping skills in dealing with illness and other health problems; and that good friends actually affect physiological pathways that are protective of health.

Healing Powers of Eating Cherries
Cherries boast a laundry list of healing powers. For starters, they pack a powerful nutritional punch for a relatively low calorie count. They’re also packed with substances that help fight inflammation and cancer. As if that weren’t enough, in lab studies, quercetin and ellagic acid, two compounds contained in cherries, have been shown to inhibit the growth of tumors and even cause cancer cells to commit suicide — without damaging healthy cells.

This Article: Healing Powers of Eating Cherries... is posted in honor of: *National Cherry Month and *National Cancer Prevention month celebrated in February. *National Nutrition Month celebrated in March. *Gout Awareness Day celebrated May 22. and *National Arthritis Month celebrated in May. *Cherry Pie Day celebrated February 20.
The benefits of Cherries are
- Cherries also have antiviral and antibacterial properties.
- Anthocyanin, another compound in cherries, is credited with lowering the uric acid levels in the blood, thereby reducing a common cause of gout.
- Cancer : In laboratory studies, the anthocyanins in Cherries are seen to inhibit the growth of cancer cells and stimulate their self-destruction, without affecting the healthy cells. Lab studies have also shown that the dietary fiber in cherries reduces cells’ exposure to cancer-causing substances, and healthy gut bacteria use the dietary fiber to produce short-chain fatty acids that protect colon cells from cancer. (Colon Cancer) Researchers have suggested that anthocyanins in cherries may reduce your risk of colon cancer, and that cherries may shut down the growth of cancer cells by depriving them of the proteins they need to grow. However, more research is required to validate the impact of cherry consumption in particular on cancer risk in humans. And as it may suggest, cherries may not be helpful in all types of cancers..
- Preventing cancer : Source of Cyanidin.
- Pain and Inflammation : Strong evidence from several studies has revealed that the anthocyanin compounds in Cherries offer powerful relief against pain and inflammation, with their strong antioxidant effects that counter oxidative stress following an inflammatory insult.
- Regular consumption may help lower risk of Heart Attacks and stroke.
- Less fat storage in the liver
- Lower blood sugar : reduce your chance of developing diabetes.
- lowers cholesterol and triglycerides : reduce your chance of developing heart disease.
- fight insomnia and slow down aging process.
- In Chinese medicine, cherries are routinely used as a remedy for gout, arthritis, and rheumatism (as well as anemia, due to their high iron content). Plus they’re delicious.

Designed to warn women of their #1 health threat, The Heart Truth created and introduced the Red Dress as the national symbol for women and heart disease awareness in 2002 to deliver an urgent wakeup call to American women.
In the UK: Wear Red Day occurs every year on February 26 and is run by the British Heart Foundation. Cream Cheese Brownie Day!
February 10 is National Cream Cheese Brownie Day and I have to tell you that my hubby could eat brownies every week! I don't crave brownies like my hubby does but I will say that I really love cream cheese brownies. While I was doing research for this food holiday, I found a pumpkin cream cheese swirl brownie recipe that I didn't have. You can find the recipe blogged at 9010rule. I'm looking forward to trying this recipe. I think it's going to be a great recipe for the Fall season too.
