Who remembers the old Chocolate Mayonnaise Cake?

Oh my gosh! I just found an old label off a mayonnaise jar that has the recipe for the old timey Chocolate Mayonnaise Cake. I can't believe it.

From what I just read the recipe was printed on Hellman's Mayonnaise jars starting around 1937. It seems the recipe was created so you didn't have to use butter and milk since those ingredients were hard to come by during WW11. The mayonnaise was used as a replacement for those. I remember my mother baking this cake and it was super moist. This find has put a memory in my heart and a smile on my face.

My Closing Thoughts~

  • 📅 Mark your calendars ahead: Our Holiday Calendar says we have a National Chocolate Cake Day that is celebrated every January 27th. / German Chocolate Cake Day is June 11th / National Cake Day is November 26.

Everyone crows about a "Wing It Eating Party" so why not host one

It's time to host those "Wing It" Parties everyone!

I have talked quite a bit about sauces and biscuits & gravies lately which reminded me of a great menu for an indoor or outdoor party. What am I talking about? I'm talking about "Wing It Eating Parties"!! What is a "Wing It" party? Well it's a food party that's based on all types of chicken wings, hot wings and buffalo wings based on all types of flavors. The wing meat itself can be baked, deep fried, battered or grilled just like in the photo above.

Let's talk some facts first

A buffalo wing, hot wing or wing is a chicken wing section (drumette or flat) that is traditionally fried unbreaded and then coated in sauce. Classic Buffalo-style chicken wing sauce is composed of a vinegar-based cayenne pepper hot sauce and butter. Buffalo wings are traditionally served with celery sticks and blue cheese dressing.

How To Plan A Buffalo Wing, Chicken Wing, Hot Wing Party!

This is going to be very simple. It's your job as a host to fill the meal table with chicken wings, celery sticks and salad, biscuits, butter and honey with all the different kinds of sauces that you can think of.

  • Plan A Wing-It Theme Party ~ Everyone crows about a "Wing It Party" at least that what my invitation said so why not host one. A wing it party is just that; it's a food party that's based on chicken wings in all kinds of flavors. You can choose to host a potluck style party where each guest brings a plate full of their favorite wings in their favorite wing sauce or you can set up a buffet style party where you provide all the sauces and toppings yourself.
  • Popular Wing Flavors ~ hot buffafo, sweet chili, honey garlic, parmesan, parmesan garlic, hot sauce, barbecue, honey mustard, teriyaki, lemon pepper, blue cheese, sweet thai, pineapple, honey hoisin, are just a few of the choices.
  • Shaker Toppings would be~ shakers full of spices, shaker full of herbs, shaker full of Parmesan cheese, shaker full of BBQ rub, shaker full of celery flakes and a shaker full of pepper flakes. Shakers add a special spark to the table that guests really really love.
  • Don't forget the sides & dressing~ A wing it party wouldn't be complete if it didn't have the traditional raw veggies and dressing with it. Not only serve raw celery and carrots but why not serve bell pepper, broccoli and cauliflower too. All of these go great with salad dressings. The #1 dressing is ranch and blue cheese.
  • Breads~ I don't know why but biscuits go great with chicken but at restaurants you don't usually get biscuits with it. Biscuits, butter and honey are fantastic flavor matches to chicken wings. Now easy bread sticks are a fantastic choice too. Bread sticks covered in oil and parmesan like you get at a pizza place is a good choice. And an odd choice is different jams and jellies. Try warmed up and melted preserves too. That super sweet fruity taste is great for the meat and for the bread.
  • Provide Dessert~ Oh yes! Every party is expected to have dessert. It doesn't really matter what you go with.... cupcakes, cookies or pie to name a few and all will work just fine.
  • Gift Giving & Door Prizes~ Decide if you want to play any games or provide any activities at your wing it party. You may just want to host a munch out where no games are played but tons of food is provided for a real wing it munch out. If you don't have games you may want to at least give a door prize to one lucky winner. It could be something as special as a bottle of homemade BBQ sauce to something as silly as a stuffed animal that looks like a chicken.
  • Added Fun~ For added fun you could meet all your guests at the door in a chicken costume! Oh yeahhh I said it! Are you brave enough to do it? This has been done many times so don't think it hasn't. Don't forget to do the chicken dance. Speaking of chicken dance.... why not have all your guest do the chicken dance. It's fun for all ages.

A Sauce Preparation

Cayenne pepper hot sauce and melted butter or margarine are the basis of the sauce. Buffalo wing sauce can be made with a variable amount of heat/spiciness, with the names of these sauces generally corresponding to the level of heat, such as mild, medium, or hot. Typically, the wings are deep-fried (although they are sometimes grilled or baked). The wings are usually fried in oil until they reach close to a golden-brown color. They are then drained where they can either be placed in a bowl with sauce or even seasoned with salt and pepper. Following this, one covers the bowl tightly and shakes to coat the wings. As an alternative to waiting to coat the wings until after they are cooked, one can also put seasoning over the wings in a sealed bag and shake them until they are coated evenly. Afterwards, arrange the wings on a baking and wait until they are cook thoroughly. Wings can then be served dry with sauce on the side.

📅 Mark your Calendars ahead

National Chicken Wing Day is celebrated every July 29th / the day rightfully proclaimed in 1977 by Buffalo mayor... / This is a great day to host a wing it party!

Sunday Supper / pork roast, spaetzle and gravy

Do you eat German Spaetzle? Have you ever made it?

I did the German Spaetzle thing today and it wasn't too bad. Now rotisserie pork roast has always been a favorite of mine but I didn't grow up eating spaetzle, so this was a test dish for me. I found lots of pictures of what it was supposed to look like. All the recipes said it was like dumplings so that information enticed me because I did however grow up eating Southern dumplings cooked in its dumpling soup gravy and I loved that. So, I thought let's give it a try.

Now when I cook pork roast, I normally cook potatoes with it but today I let the spaetzle replace the potatoes. The recipe directions said to use a spaetzle board when making them. Well, I didn't have one of those, so I tried to use a small hole grater, but the holes were to small. So the directions said to use your fork and mash out bite size noodle-thingies. Well, that was a lot of work and even though it was fun it was taking me forever to make a bowl full and using my fork just didn't feel right. LOL~ So needless to say, I rolled out the remaining and cut that stuff with a crinkle roll knife. Ha! Ok so I cheated. Sorry but I passed on the traditional shape of spaetzle. Wait don't get mad at me. I did say I did some. I need that spaetzle board for sure though.

🛒 Spaetzle Boards

The taste wasn't too bad.

I thought the flavor went well with pork, but I kept thinking it was to dry. Maybe that was because I had southern dumplings in my head. I think it would have been a failure for me if I hadn't of had the brown gravy to pore over it to give it more moisture. I also tossed some cheese on top of that too and it turned out better once I did that. Mushroom gravy would have been a good choice too, I think.

Next time I make it I'm going to add some herbs in it.

I tried to follow the directions of the recipe I was looking at since it was my first time making it, so I didn't veer from the original. But next time I know I'm going to add some fresh herbs. Maybe parsley, basil or chives, who knows. All in all, it tasted kinda like a dry chewie egg noodle thingie. I guess that's what it was. Again though, I'm very glad I had the gravy because this dish seems to be one you don't want to eat dry. And I know if I add a selection of herbs and spices it will taste much different next time. Maybe some garlic too~

Ok to sum it up...

I went with a basic recipe for the first try. Next time I'm going to herb it up and also go with mushroom gravy and see how that changes things. So it didn't turn out perfect. Be it good or bad, sometime you just have to eat it with a big spoon. Wink~ Until next time everyone~ "Live everyday like a Holiday" Pam

Key Points on How to Pray

Hi friends! This post is in honor of World Day of Prayer, National Day of Prayer and Unity Day of Prayer in our calendar. All 3 are celebrated in different months. Today my post is about my research on key points of prayer.

Prayer is talking to God. Prayer is vital to the Spiritual Life of Christians. Christians pray to God because they know that they are following the will of God by doing so. We are taught that God is our Father. As his child, we must speak to him, talk to him and pray to his. In doing so he answers our prayers and guides us in life.

.............................................................★☆★............................................................

 Ask In Faith

When you begin to pray, you must believe and have faith in God.

Hebrews 11:6
But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.  (Apostle Paul wrote)

You see..... those who turn to God must believe that he really exists.  Those that do believe are rewarded by him.  Why?  Because you had faith in him and believed in him.... therefore God will hear your prayers.

Matthew 21:22
Christ said,

“And all things, whatsoever you shall ask in prayer, believing, you shall receive”

.............................................................★☆★............................................................

Bibles Definition of Faith

Hebrews 11:1
Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

God always fulfills his promises and if you faithfully turn to him then he will faithfully be there for you.  You must have faith and believe.  When you have faith and believe.... he will answer your prayers.  You also have to believe that he WILL answer your prayers.  "This is what FAITH is."  Remember the verse in Matthew 21:22.  "And all things, whatsoever you shall ask in prayer, believing, you shall receive."
............................................................★☆★............................................................

In Prayer we have faith.

With Faith we must be Diligent
What this means is, we must not give up when we pray to God for something that is important to us.  In prayer we must pray and talk to God more than once.  More than twice.  We must be "Diligent" in our prayers.  Be heartfelt and come to God daily with your prayers, your want's and your needs.  Let God know how important it is to you and how much you need his help in the matter that you're praying for.  This is what he want's you to do.  Why?  Because HE want's to be there for you and answer your prayer.

Matthew 7:7-11
Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened. Or what man is there of you, whom if his son ask bread, will he give him a stone? Or if he ask a fish, will he give him a serpent? If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?

Luke 11:8-9
I say unto you, Though he will not rise and give him, because he is his friend, yet because of his importunity he will rise and give him as many as he needeth. And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.

............................................................★☆★............................................................

Your Prayer Requests must be centered on what God desires

Do you ask God to forgive you of your sins? You should
Do not pray for selfish reasons or for bad will toward others.
Do your prayers reflect love and kindness? They should
Do your prayers reflect mercy? They should
Do your prayers reflect concern for others? They should
Do you thank God Daily for everything? You should

I John 5:14-15
The Apostle John wrote, “And this is the confidence that we have in [God], that, if we ask any thing according to His will, He hears us: And if we know that He hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of Him.”

  • God want's you to ask for forgiveness of your sins so you can come to him being forgiven for your sins so you may then ask for blessings in your prayers to him.
  • God wants you to draw close to Him and confide in him.  He want's you to trust him and show Him where your heart is.
  • He wants you to express out-going concern for others.  He wants you to NOT be selfish and pray for others as well as for yourself.
  • He wants you to claim his promises.  By claiming His many promises according to his scriptures, you prove to him that you know his will.
  • He wants you to submit your will to Him. If you believe God’s Word and pray from the heart, God’s thoughts will saturate your mind. You will come to think—and act—like Him.  Eph. 1:17-19
  • Eph. 1:17-19 - That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him: The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints, And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power,
  • You are a child of God, God wants to know His children. Specific, highly detailed prayers please God.  Prayers that are non-selfish pleases God.  One must stay away from prayers of... I want I want I want!  For example: prayers of winning the lottery.  This is a selfish prayer.  Or prayers of asking God to punish someone who has done you wrong.  God listens to all of your prayers but does God answer your selfish and destructive prayers that you ask for????   God likes more prayer of thank you.  1 Thessalonians 5:18   In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.  God likes more prayers that pray from the heart.  Like.... ..... help me with... and I need

Key Points on How To Pray

Ask for Forgiveness

Thank Him for the many blessings He showers upon you daily: Food, drink, shelter, clothes, family, pets, friends, health, employment, protection, understanding his will, freedom from the Devil.

Thank Him for the trials you came under for the day.
Every day is not perfect.  We have bad days all the time but we learn something important from everything bad that happens in our daily life. They may seem like stumblingblocks but thanking God for what we learned from it builds a true faithful character.  God is actively teaching His children to think, speak and act properly each and every day.  Thank God for what you have learned from the trials of the day.  He gives us the strength to endure all.

Galatians 5:22-23
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.

In your prayers, ask for God’s will to be done, not yours.
Ask Him to give you a teachable attitude of his will so you understand it.
Also, ask Him to help you properly accept His answer—even if it is not what you wanted to hear.

After you have put God first in your prayers,
then you can pray about your daily needs.
If you need a job, pray for it. If you need to be healed, ask. If you are drowning in debt, spread your bills before God and seek His help. As long as you “seek first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness”
(2 Corinthians 12 - 33), God will provide for your every need. All you have to do is ask.

Philippians 4:13
Paul wrote, “I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me.”

You must forgive others who have sinned against you.

Make sure that all prayers are said in the name of Jesus Christ. Only by His authority—His name—can you approach God’s throne of grace:

Saying “Amen”
This simply means, “so be it.” You should end all prayers with “amen."
