6 Canine Superfoods

There’s a great quote that goes, “A dog is the only thing on earth that loves you more than he loves himself.” Make sure you reciprocate your love for man’s best friend by integrating canine-friendly superfoods to ensure the optimal health of your pet!t’s important to keep in mind that the nutrients found in our pets’ food play a vital role in promoting good health and longevity. Dogs – just like people – have complex, dietary needs. Proper nutrition is essential for everyone, but paramount to our pets, who rely on us (as the owners) to pony up the good eats.  Source: http://www.p...ompanions/

Happiness Happens Month

😀Secret Society of Happy People (SOHP) is an organization that celebrates the expression of happiness. Founded in August 1998, the society encourages thousands members from all around the globe to recognize their happy moments and think about happiness in their daily life.

Purpose
The Secret Society of Happy People supports people who want to share their happiness despite the ones who don’t want to hear happy news. Their mottos include “Happiness Happens” and “Don’t Even Think of Raining on My Parade”.
The main purpose of the Society is to stimulate people’s right to express their happiness “as loud as they want”

Reception
The Society was founded in August 1998 in Irving, Texas, by Pamela Gail Johnson. In December 1998, it gained international reception, when it challenged advice columnist Ann Landers for discouraging people from writing happy holiday newsletters enclosed with their holiday cards. In a letter to Landers, Johnson demanded an apology “to the millions of people you made feel bad for wanting to share their happy news.” The Society’s campaign persuaded Landers to change her advice on holiday letters, one of the rare occasions the columnist had a change of heart. Within the next few years the Society grew bigger being supported by thousands of fans from more than 34 countries.

Founder
Pamela Gail Johnson founded the Secret Society of Happy People with the main idea of creating a “safe place” where people can share their happy moments, without being discouraged by the parade rainers. Since 1998 she has been managing the Society by writing posts, writing the newsletter, updating social media information and answering fan’s questions on her blog Ask Pamela Gail: Where Happiness Meets Reality. Each blog post is formed as an answer to the member’s questions submitted through the website. The purpose is to give people advice for handling their unhappy moments and learning the lesson out of each and every one of them. The column is posted weekly. Pamela is also the author of The Secret Society of Happy People’s Thirty-One Types of Happiness Guide released in November 2012 and Don’t Even Think of Raining on My Parade: Adventures of the Secret Society of Happy People.

Events

Happiness Happens Day.

File:Happiness is all in your mind- Gen Kelsang Nyema at TEDxGreenville 2014.webm
In 1999 the Society declared August 8 as Admit You're Happy Day (now Happiness Happens Day). The idea was inspired by the event that happened the previous year on the same date- the first member joined the Society. In 1998 the Society asked the governors in all 50 states for a proclamation. Nineteen of them sent proclamations.

Happiness Happens Month

Celebration of happiness was expanded in 2000, and thanks to the support of not-so-secretly-happy members from around the world, the Society declared August as Happiness Happens Month. The purpose of Happiness Happens Day and Month is to share happiness and encourage people to talk and think about happiness.

HappyThon

Every year, the Society organizes an online social media event known as Happy Thon, on Happiness Happens Day. The aim of this event is to send inspirational messages via social networks, emails or texts, share happy moments, philosophy, quotes, etc. Happy Thon is the first online social media event that promotes happiness around the world.
Since 1998 the Society have been organizing voting and announcing the Happiest Events and Moments of the Year. Before the end of the century, a vote for 100 of the Happiest Events, Inventions and Social Changes of the Century was organized. In the third week of January the Society hosted Hunt for Happiness Week. They asked the current governors for proclamation, and got it by seven of them.

Commemorates the Life of Ron Wyatt

This post commemorates the life of Ron Wyatt /
who died on August 4

Ronald Eldon Wyatt (2 June 1933 – August 4, 1999) was an adventurer / archaeologist noted for advocating the Durupınar site as the site of Noah's Ark, along with almost 100 other alleged Bible related discoveries. They have been dismissed by scientists, historians, biblical scholars, and other creationists but his work continues to have a following.

BIOGRAPHY
Wyatt was working as a nurse anesthetist in a hospital in Madison, Tennessee, when in 1960, he saw a picture in Life of the Durupınar site, a boat-like shape on a mountain near Mount Ararat. The resulting widespread speculation in evangelical Christian circles that this might be Noah's Ark started Wyatt on his career as an amateur archaeologist. From 1977 until his death in 1999 he made over one hundred trips to the Middle East, his interests widening to take in a wide variety of references from the Old and New Testaments.

Amateur archaeology

By the time of his death in 1999, Wyatt claimed to have discovered several sites and artifacts related to the Bible and Biblical archaeology. These included:

  • Noah's Ark (the Durupınar site, located approximately 29 kilometres (18 mi) south of Mount Ararat)
  • Anchor stones (or drogue stones) used by Noah on the Ark
  • The post-flood house, grave markers and tombs of Noah and his wife
  • The location of Sodom and Gomorrah and the other Cities of the Plain: Zoar, Zeboim and Admah
  • Sulfur/brimstone balls from the ashen remains of Sodom and Gomorrah
  • The area of Djoser's pyramid complex believed to be the remains of Joseph's grain distribution bins used during the seven-year famine
  • The Tower of Babel site (in southern Turkey)
  • How the Egyptians may have built the pyramids
  • The site of the Israelitescrossing of the Red Sea (located in the Gulf of Aqaba)
  • Chariot wheels and other relics of the army of Pharaoh at the bottom of the Red Sea
  • The site of the biblical Mount Sinai (in Saudi Arabia at Jabal al-Lawz)
  • A chamber at the end of a maze of tunnels under Jerusalem containing artifacts from Solomon's Temple, including the Ark of the Covenant
  • The site of the Crucifixion of Jesus
  • Christ's blood in an "earthquake crack" beneath the crucifixion site, the DNA of which, according to Wyatt, contained 24 chromosomes, rather than 46
  • Burial pots off the coast of Ashkelon

Reception

Wyatt was not considered credible by professional archaeologists and biblical scholars. The Garden Tomb Association of Jerusalem state in a letter they issue to visitors on request:
The Council of the Garden Tomb Association (London) totally refute the claim of Mr Wyatt to have discovered the original Ark of the Covenant or any other biblical artifacts within the boundaries of the area known as the Garden Tomb Jerusalem. Though Mr Wyatt was allowed to dig within this privately owned garden on a number of occasions (the last occasion being the summer of 1991) staff members of the Association observed his progress and entered his excavated shaft. As far as we are aware nothing was ever discovered to support his claims nor have we seen any evidence of biblical artifacts or temple treasures.
Archaeologist Joe Zias of Israel Antiquities Authority (IAA) has stated that "Ron Wyatt is neither an archaeologist nor has he ever carried out a legally licensed excavation in Israel or Jerusalem. In order to excavate one must have at least a BA in archaeology which he does not possess despite his claims to the contrary. ... [His claims] fall into the category of trash which one finds in tabloids such as the National EnquirerSun etc."
Wyatt's official organization, Wyatt Archaeological Research (WAR), claims that the IAA have always been aware of the excavations and issued "verbal permits" for most of them and official permits to all WAR excavations since 2002. Nevertheless, the only evidence of WAR involvement in a legitimate excavation sanctioned by the IAA relates to WAR part-funding of a 2005 dig.
Evangelicals have also been critical of Wyatt's claims: Answers in Genesis called Wyatt's claims "fraudulent", and David Merling, a Seventh-day Adventist professor of archaeology addressed the issues of Wyatt's Noah's Ark and anchor stones with the following:
While the Durupinar site is about the right length for Noah's ark, [it is] ... too wide to be Noah's ark. Wyatt has claimed that the "boat-shapedness" of this formation can only be explained by its being Noah's ark, but both Shea and Morris have offered other plausible explanations. Likewise, Wyatt has argued that the standing stones he has found are anchors, while Terian is aware of similar stones outside the Durupinar site area that were pagan cultic stones later converted by Christians for Christian purposes.

Death

Wyatt died on August 4, 1999, aged 66, in Baptist Central Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee, following cancer. His interment was in Columbia's Polk Memorial Park Cemetery.
His friend, Richard Rives, wrote of him on his official webpage:
Ron’s main goal in life was to “help somebody get to heaven.” When considering an archaeological project, Ron’s main consideration was “Will it help somebody get to heaven?” He would always say: “If it won’t help somebody get to heaven I don’t want to do it."
Following Wyatt's death, a split developed between the official Wyatt Archaeological Research (WAR) organization, which he founded, and the independent ministries and interested individuals that had previously cooperated with WAR. WAR claims to be the sole owner of all Wyatt's photographs, newsletters and other intellectual property. Other individuals who had known and worked with Wyatt established independent ministries and websites with the purpose of promoting Wyatt's discoveries outside the framework set by WAR.

Photo of St Stephen's Green

St Stephen's Green is a city centre public park in Dublin, Ireland. The current landscape of the park was designed by William Sheppard. It was officially re-opened to the public in 1880. The park is adjacent to one of Dublin's main shopping streets, Grafton Street, and to a shopping centre named for it, while on its surrounding streets are the offices of a number of public bodies as well as a stop on one of Dublin's Luas tram lines. At 22 acres, it is the largest of the parks in Dublin's main Georgian garden squares.

The park is rectangular, surrounded by streets that once formed major traffic arteries through Dublin city centre, although traffic management changes implemented in 2004 during the course of the Luas works have greatly reduced the volume of traffic. These four bordering streets are called, respectively, St Stephen's Green North, St Stephen's Green South, St Stephen's Green East and St Stephen's Green West.

August is National Panini Month

Sandwich Time!!! Ohhh yea!  It's time for us to master our sandwich pressing skills. lol! August is National Panini Month and Yes a Panini is a type of hot pressed sandwich. I've often wondered why a hot pressed sandwich was picked to be observed in the hottest month of the year instead of a cold cooling sandwich.? But hey, August must identify with it somehow. I just couldn't find out how.

This food observance slides right in with August being National Sandwich Month too. Now let's talk about the Panini Sandwich and how to make it... so here we go......
............................................................................................

About The Bread
In many English-speaking countries, a panini or panino (from the Italian meaning "small bread, bread rolls") is a grilled sandwich made from bread other than sliced bread.
Examples of bread types used for panini are baguette, ciabatta, and michetta. The bread is cut horizontally and filled with deli ingredients such as cheese, ham, tomato, mortadella, salami, or other food, and often served warm after having been pressed by a warming grill.
..........................................................................................................................

Grills That Press and melt
A panini press or grill is a contact grill for heating sandwiches, meat products, vegetables, and specialty menu items, nearly always with electric elements, comprising a heated bottom plate that is fixed, and a heated top plate that closes towards the bottom plate and comes in contact with the food. The function of the panini grill is to heat food to an appropriate internal temperature with desirable external characteristics (i.e. melted cheese, crisp finish, grill marks).

Aromatherapy for Cancer Treatment

There are essential oils which contain constituents that are anti-carcinogenic. They inhibit one or more stages of a cancer’s progression. This does not mean essential oils cure cancer. Just like it takes several factors for potentially carcinogenic essential oil constituents to cause cancer, it also takes a lot of work for these essential oils to help with preventing cancer. Sometimes the presence of anti-carcinogenic essential oil constituents can negate the carcinogenic potential of an essential oil. Some have anti-tumoral properties.

Subject: Aromatherapy for Cancer Treatment
  • Frankincense Essential Oil Targets Cancer Cells : A study in the journal BioMed Central journal of Complementary and Alternative Medicine, March 2009, titled: "Frankincense oil derived from Boswellia carteri induces tumor cell specific cytotoxicity" concludes with: "Frankincense oil appears to distinguish cancerous from normal bladder cells and suppress cancer cell viability. Microarray and bioinformatics analysis proposed multiple pathways that can be activated by frankincense oil to induce bladder cancer cell death. Frankincense oil might represent an alternative intravesical agent for bladder cancer treatment." ...while a bit technical, this is very, very promising -- essentially saying that this easily obtained, inexpensive, NON-TOXIC natural compound can eradicate cancer cells without harming normal, healthy cells in the same organ. Frankincense has a long, long history of medicinal use, and searching for 'frankincense cancer' produces 30 results just for this material. If choosing an essential oil of Frankincense, the 'carteri' species has been the subject of most research, with cold-process Carbon Dioxide distilled oils considered the most therapeutic (seek CO2 or SCO2 distilled oils or extracts, as offered by Ananda here).
  • Lemongrass Essential Oil Induces Cancer Cell Death : Lemongrass, after Frankincense, may next most commonly researched essential oil for anti-cancer activity. In the May 2009 journal of Chemico-Biological Interactions, researchers tested Lemongrass essential oil against 12 human cancer cell lines. Colon cancer and neuron cancer cell lines were found most susceptible to the essential oil. The study concluded: "Our results indicate that the oil has a promising anticancer activity and causes loss in tumor cell viability by activating the apoptotic process as identified by electron microscopy." This indicates that Lemongrass may induce natural cell death of cancer cells (apoptotic process), a process that is inherently dysfunctional in cancer cells.
  • Sweet Linalool for Liver Cancer: Linalool is a very common essential oil constituent. Essential oils are naturally made up of many individual chemical constituents, and linalool is a sweet, relaxing aromatic found in many floral and sweeter spice essential oils. Linalool itself, separated from the essential oil of Coriander (Cilantro seeds) was the subject of research published in the June 2009 issue of the journal of Chemico-Biological interactions. Linalool was found to completely eradicate the HepG2 liver cancer cell line in VERY low concentrations. Linalool has a great many other effects, having been shown to lower anxiety and even significantly improve sleep. And now it even has anti-cancer effects! So even if one is noted directly targeting cancer, but using aromatherapy in a more 'casual' application, there may be important protective effects occurring at the same time.Skin cancer is a major concern for many folks, and a series of studies have shown Sandalwood to be effective at preventing tumor development. Alpha-santalol, a component also shown to have anti-anxiety and sleep enhancing action, may be the constituent to which most of these effects may be attributed. This is fortunate, as Sandalwood from India is becoming more rare and expensive, though Sandalwood from Australia and other South Pacific islands is still readily available. A study published in the European Journal of Cancer Prevention, a formula used for containing just 5% Sandalwood essential oil used before exposure to toxins significantly reduced the formation of skin cancer tumors. A study published in January 2008 in the Journal of Anitcancer Research showed a significant reduction in tumor development in skin exposed to UVB radiation -- Sandalwood would make an excellent addition to a pre-sun body or face care formula.
  • The Powerful Protection of Spice Oils : Components of Thyme and Oregano essential oils have been shown to actually protect human DNA strands from breaking when exposed to extreme oxidative stress. DNA damage is a leading cause of cancer development, as this can lead to an abnormal cell life cycle, essentially turning off the process of natural cell death. Carvacrol and Thymol were singled out in a study by Slovakian researchers in 2007, though they also note that other components of these oils may have chemoprotective effects as well. Other spice essential oils that have demonstrated cancer preventative effects include Ginger, Tumeric, Basil, Garlic and Sage.
  • Essential Oils Offer Immune System Support : Beyond the direct effects on tumor cells, essential oils have been shown to positively effect the immune system on a chemical level. They can enhance the activity of white blood cells, making them more efficient and removing foreign material and microbes from the body. This would likely result in more effective cancer outcomes. Further, there's the psychological component of any disease, and many essential oils have demonstrated anti-stress activity in scientific investigations.
