Poem: I'm not a witch but no one can tell

Poem: I'm not a witch but no one can tell

I'm not a witch but no one can tell

because I still have all my herb books and ale.

I fashion my potions to help those feel better

but many consider me evil and scattered.

Soups, brews, lotions and salves~

I make all of these just by using all plants.

My knowledge of picking, crushing and drying

then caldron-ing it up until its ready for bottling.

I'm not a witch but no one can tell

My garden grows greener than any oh well.

My herbs are all flourishing and producing my tools

my mortar and pestles are working to brew.

Clipping, cutting and wrapping in red ribbon

I give you a gift of the magic I'm willing.

Tinctures and poring; directions for use.

Stepping and steaming are all of good use.

I'm not a witch but no one can tell

plants are a bounty and healings prevail.

My Spookified Kitchen for Halloween

Today I'm sharing
Today I'm sharing how I decorated and spookified my kitchen for Halloween.
I added a ghostly touch by adding my hand crafted and hand painted black wooden bats and my candy corn pots that I painted to hold my kitchen utensils.

The whole kitchen has a mysterious feel
The whole kitchen has a mysterious feel to it thanks to my magical live plants that I keep on my kitchen counter. No kitchen is complete without a spooktacular selection of herbs and spices right~

"BOO" in the kitchen
And last but not least... I have to have my "Boo" in the kitchen with me. Yes my happy ghost mascot has been with me for many years and is making his appearance once again for Halloween. I love his smiling face.

#HalloweenHome
Everyone.... enjoy decorating for Halloween. Have fun with it and remember to share your ideas with each other. If your on social media and your sharing your kitchen photos... Remember to #HalloweenKitchen

Pirate Party

CIMG1426

"Ahoy, matey!" It's Pirate Party Time. Everyone loves the Golden Age of Piracy that's why everyone loves to host pirate parties. So in honor of pirate theme parties, pirate birthdays, Halloween & International Talk like a pirate day (celebrated on September 19)...Grrrr... we're about to "Party Like A Pirate!"

Hoist your colors.
Oskar's First Birthday - Pirate Ship Cake

Let's start with the table. Go with all natural wood for the rustic feel or go with a tablecloth. If you go with a tablecloth; the most common color are all black (since black is associated with pirates) or all blue which makes you think of sailing the ocean blue. Party stores have lot's of matching sets of napkins, paper plates and pirate banners.  Choose decorations like treasure chests, candles, pirate flags, chains, cannon balls. (all plastic props that can be found especially during Halloween) Add signs to each dish with pirate names to help your guests get in the spirit of pirates.

Avast!.... Ye needs ah bountiful table.
Pirate food

Arrr... you must have a bounty of pirate food on the table. I'm not saying you have to have loads of food (although Pirates were known to pig out while on land) but go with foods that theme the look and flavors of a pirate. Choose theme cakes or cupcakes for dessert.

"Shiver me bones" a knife stabbing party table.

On land pirates were meat eaters for sure. And for outdoor pirate parties it's common to see roasted pig. Yep, pig pickins are the choice for adult parties and platters of large leg bones (like turkey legs) are all the rage for narlyyy pirates to chew on. Pirate theme parties and children's birthday parties tend to leave out the pig carcass (Euh!) and stick to chicken wings and pulled pork sandwiches.

Arrr... Pirate Cakes
Treasure Chest cakeThe most popular cakes are treasure chest cakes that's surrounded with chocolate money, candy jewelry and chocolate sea shells. Pirate ship cakes can be decorated with malted milk balls (candy) that's just right for cannon balls.

Pirate Cupcakes
pirate cupcakesCupcakes are great for easy serving and can be made in a variety of ways. The most popular being skull-n-bones which are chocolate icing with the shape of a white skull piped on top. (see example) Pirate head cupcakes are easily made by using junior mints for the eye patch, fruit roll-ups for the bandannas and chocolate sprinkles are perfect for a scruffy pirate face. (see example) I call the style of cupcake to the right; a dead mans cupcake.

Pirate Pan Pizza
Pirate pizzaYou can't go wrong by serving a pirate face pizza especially at children's parties. Everyone love's pizza no matter the age so pirate that pizza up and serve it at your next pirate party. If it's a small group of people the personalized mini pizzas are perfect. If it's a large group of people; a large pizza works great too.

In Closing
Well I hope I rounded up a few ideas that will help on your next pirate party. Remember to mark your calendars(for International Talk like a pirate day . It's celebrated every year on September 19th and public pirate parties will be hosted everywhere too!

Halloween: I stuffed it

Hummm..... the last time I wore this costume I had to stuff it with 2 bed pillows. This time I only had to stuff it with 1!

I think I've been celebrating to many Food Holidays by eating the holiday observance foods. You know, like to many pumpkins for National Pumpkin Month. wink~

Happy
Halloween
Everyone!

Blog Post Pick: Medusa Cheeseball by Jo and Sue

Celebration Food:  Perfect for Halloween & theme parties!

Blog Post Pick: Medusa Cheeseball
I love to read blogs and when I find something I like, I have to pass it on. Today I ran across this fantastic Medusa Cheeseball by Jo and Sue. Make sure to check out their blog because if your a foodie, you'll have fun here. Great job guys I love it!

Jo and Sue said: "We were inspired to create this Medusa cheeseball after we made the SPA MASK CHEESE BALL that we fell in love with from the Hungry Happenings site. Someone commented on our blog saying that their son was having a mythology birthday theme party (how cool is that by the way) and they were going to make the spa mask into Medusa. Genius! We immediately thought of Halloween. I started thinking of all the things that Sue and I could use for Medusa's snake hair. Weiners cut into strips, jello worms, spaghetti/pasta, bread. We decided to go with bread because we had more control over how... more »

Do you have a great cheeseball idea? We would love to hear about it.

My Halloween Window

I do enjoy Halloween! This year I wanted the theme of the house to be spiders so Stephen and I took a trip to the Halloween store to see what we could find. I always love it when the store opens in October because it's so much fun to look at all the new props and spooky stuff that's been added. While there I found these great window sheets. (there actually called window posters but there just sheets of colored plastic with a design on it). They came in many different themes and I scampered through the lot to see if I could find some spiders. Low and behold there they were! I've never grabbed anything so fast before in my life. giggle~ I knew right off the bat that that's what I wanted.

My front window is in 3 sections (as you can see from the picture) and these sheets were the perfect size to fit. The sheets have an orange background so it looks like the whole house is in orange. I bought 3 packs of sheets; each pack had 2 in it so I was able to cover 6 of my front windows. The whole house glows orange and I love it. Not just outside but inside too. What a fantastic setting for a Halloween party! The only down side to it is you can't see out of the windows. I guess that's just what you have to put up with if you want a spider house. It's so Halloweenish!

I covered the porch in spider webs and black spiders too. There crawling on the wall and up the front door. I placed a couple of jack-o-lanterns on the door steps and baby spiders like them. It looks like the whole house has been taken over by spiders. A few more spider webs on the shrubs and my little cottage is a spider haven. Ok.... maybe I over did it a bit but I think all little goblins who come to trick-or-treat this year will enjoy it.
Happy Halloween Decorating to all.
