What is that paper bootie thing placed at the end of turkey drumsticks?

Do you celebrate with turkey during the holidays?  If so, this page will answer that often-asked question: "What is that paper bootie thing placed at the end of turkey drumsticks?"

Turkey Frills are paper Frills or 'booties ~

Turkey Frills are paper frills or 'booties' that are placed on the end of turkey or other poultry drumsticks to make a beautiful presentation of the food. The products are called "paper frills" or turkey frills. They are available at supermarkets or through stores and/or their respective web sites. The size varies to fit different types of bird." You can even place frills on pork chops!

Turkey Frills became popular because it was thought meat looked better if the knotty end of the bone was covered up- so the paper frills were invented.

Turkeys are sometimes decorated with turkey frills prior to serving:

  • Do not cook turkey with the frills on!
  • Turkey Frills are placed on after the turkey is cooked! If you place them on the bird while cooking, it will catch on fire!
  • Turkey Frills are placed on a cooked turkey for an elegant presentation.

Can you make paper frills if you can't find them in stores? Yes!

  • Step 1: Cut one 8 1/2 by 11 sheet of white printer paper in half.
  • Step 2: Fold each piece of paper in half.
  • Step 3: Hold both folded papers together and cut equally spaced strips on the folded side. Try to cut each frill the same depth and length, keeping up to 1/2" away from the end of the folded paper. If it's off a bit, don't worry- I will still turn out great :)
  • Step 4: Fluff out the frill! Open each frilled paper and fold in the opposite direction to add fullness to the frills.
  • Step 5: Then wrap each handmade frill around each cooked turkey leg and use a child safe glue stick to secure.

Dress up any dinner party with paper frills!

Paper Frills can be placed on any type of poultry drumsticks! Put them of chicken or even individual servings of cornish hens or quail :)  It makes a beautiful dinner plate.

National Turkey Lovers Month!

June is National Turkey Lovers Month Hello to everyone. Today we're passing on the information about National Turkey Lovers Month. Yep I know.... you would think that November would be Turkey Lovers Month because of so many people eating turkey for Thanksgiving but it's not. The VDACS website says "June celebration emphasizes turkey’s year-round popularity. " It's all about getting people to eat more turkey. If you do a lot of blog surfing you've probably noticed a lot of turkey recipes being passed around in honor of Turkey Lovers Month. I have to admit, I love the taste of roasted turkey but I usually don't eat turkey except at Christmas and Thanksgiving. I have noticed a lot more turkey meat at the grocery store lately and quite a bit of ground turkey meat. I think in honor of Turkey Lovers Month I'm going to make an effort to buy some ground meat and put in in a couple of recipes. You know what they say right? That any recipe that calls for chicken can be substituted with turkey! :) I have tons of chicken recipes and none for turkey so I'm going to give it a try :) More Holidays around the world for June 11, 2009 Libya: Evacuation Day King Kamehameha I Day National Nursing Assistants Day
