How To Make Strawberry Frozen Yogurt At Home

Mark your calendars because National Frozen Yogurt Day is celebrated every year on February 6th.

Frozen Yogurt is a frozen dessert made with yogurt and sometimes other dairy products. It is usually more tart than ice cream, as well as lower in fat (due to the use of milk instead of cream). It is different from ice milk (more recently termed low-fat or light ice cream) and conventional soft serve.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups (16 oz) fresh strawberries
  • 1 cup 2% fat Greek yogurt
  • 1 lemon
  • 1/2 cup white granulated sugar
  • 1 tbsp. orange liqueur

Procedure

  1. Wash and dry the strawberries and lemon
  2. Slice strawberries into small pieces
  3. Combine strawberries and sugar
  4. Roll a lemon on a counter while applying pressure with the palm of one hand
  5. Cut lemon in half and squeeze both halves through a strainer into the strawberry mixture.
  6. Remove any remaining seeds from the lemon halves and add them, with the rind, to the strawberry mixture
  7. Allow strawberry mixture to macerate for 1-2 hours, stirring occasionally until all of the sugar crystals are dissolved
  8. Discard lemon halves
  9. Add orange liqueur to the strawberry mixture
  10. Use a blender of food processor to reduce the strawberry mixture to a puree, but don't over blend
  11. Stir the Greek yogurt into to the strawberry mixture, mixing until well combined
  12. Refrigerate strawberry yogurt mixture for at least four hours
  13. Pour strawberry yogurt mixture into a prepared ice cream maker and mix for approximately 20 minutes, or until the frozen yogurt has reached a firm consistency
  14. Eat immediately, or freeze for later

Notes

Artificial sweetener or honey can be substituted for up to 1/2 of the sugar.

1/4 cup sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 box (6 oz) Nature Valley® dark chocolate granola thins, unwrapped
1 cup Cocoa Puffs® cereal

DIRECTIONS:

1. Line 8x4-inch loaf pan with foil. In large bowl, beat cream, sugar and vanilla with electric mixer on high speed until stiff peaks form.

2. Spread 3/4 cup of the whipped cream evenly in bottom of pan. Place 3 granola thins, chocolate side up, on top of cream. Top with 3/4 cup whipped cream. Sprinkle 1/2 cup of the cereal evenly over top. Spread 3/4 cup of the whipped cream over cereal.

3. Repeat layering with 3 granola thins and 3/4 cup whipped cream. Top with remaining 1/2 cup cereal, 3/4 cup whipped cream and 3 granola thins. Cover loosely with plastic wrap. Freeze until firm, at least 4 hours or up to 2 days.

4. To serve, let cake stand at room temperature 5 minutes. Remove plastic wrap. Place serving platter upside down over pan; turn platter and pan over. Remove pan and foil. Break remaining granola thin into pieces; sprinkle over top. With sharp knife, cut crosswise into 1-inch-thick slices.
