Crape Day encourages us to eat crapes on this day!
Eating crepes is exactly what I'm going to do today too. Crepes are a favorite of mine and if I have to choose between crepes or pancakes I will usually go with crepes every time.I also enjoy making them at home. I like how thin and light they taste. A perfect vehicle to hold all your fillings in. Ha! The picture to the left shows them folded up but I actually fill mine and just roll them up. I love them filled with tiny diced peaches and sweet cream cheese myself. Humm... cherry and cream cheese is good too. Oh oh! blueberries and cream cheese is fantastic! Gotta go with whipped cream on top of all of them though. Yep... the sweet fruit version is a weakness of mine for sure.

What is a Crape?
A crêpe is a thin pancake. The French word is from the Latin root crispa meaning "curled", from which the English word "crisp" is also derived. It originates from Brittany, a region in the west of France, where it is traditionally served with cider. Historically, they were cooked on flat rocks (hence the name). Crêpes are usually of two types: sweet or savoury, the main difference is the flour used (plain flour or buckwheatflour respectively). They may then be rolled or folded, and filled with different ingredients. Depending on the filling ingredients, filled crêpes can be either a dessert dish or a main course.

How to Celebrate National Crepe Day
- Host a Crepe Making Dessert Party! Crepes can be both sweet or savory but I say party with the sweet stuff! Have all your guests bring one food item to fill the crepes with. They can choose from fruit, cream cheese, chocolate, peanut butter, puddings, and the list goes on and on. You can provide the crepe batter.
- Invite your guests the quick way: 123Greetings has a nice list of free internet invitations you can send too.
- Always give away a door prize at your party or get together. An easy box of crepe mix from the grocery store would work just fine. Yep that ole saying "Box with a Bow" will work just fine for a simple crepe day party. Or... be more creative and bring out all the bells and whistles with a gift box of crepe making goodies.
- Learn how to make a crepe: If you've never made a crepe before find an easy recipe and give it a go. They are real easy to make and most people love them. You may find you have a new breakfast favorite.
- Do you have any creperies in your area? A crêperie may be a takeaway restaurant or stall, serving crêpes as a form of fast food or street food, or may be a more formal sit-down restaurant or café. If you do.... treat yourself to a nice meal of crepes that someone else cooks.
- Be a good neighbor: Make crepes and take to your neighbor in celebration of National Crepe Day. I bet they would be shocked!
- Do you know of someone who has been feeling down? Make up a cute little crepe making gift basket and deliver to them. Put all the things inside that would make crepes. (flour, eggs, pie filling etc.)
- Spread the word about National Crepe Day. Share my page with a friend and pass on the crepe fun. I talk about Food Holidays all the time so check back with us often.
